The name Mary McDonald wasn’t new to me, however the portfolio of this fabulous interior designer was a real find this morning! Mary McDonald is a young LA-based designer known in the industry as a person whose style is “old-fashioned elegance with a modern sensibility resulting in a fearless, joyful exuberance”. She was named as one of the Top 100 Designers by House Beautiful and her aesthetic shows a livable harmony of colors, serenity and touch of glamor here and there. Mary’s input to a room she designs is like no other, so each space has its own atmosphere and charm, whether it’s a traditional or contemporary style.
Mary McDonald is layering patterns and colors like there’s no tomorrow and the best of it is that is brings a fantastic vibe to a room, no overwhelming accessories or colors and the perfect balance is simply breathtaking!
The classic touches are paired with modern details and a room designed by Mary McDonald will never look empty or dull, hence all the artwork, antique frames and enchanting fabrics.
A signature of Mary is the use of chinoiserie in the same room as Indian pieces and clean lines and again – a brilliant balance meant to inspire you at its best!
Mary McDonald is so good at what she’s doing that she can graciously bring animal prints into a room and make it shine due to the sophisticated simplicity resulting this. Not an easy task, if I dare to say this.
Mary’s portfolio is decidedly settling down in my inspirational folder and will surely remind me always that a wallpaper CAN look stunning even though it has a clean design and a room CAN have more than three colors to still smitten everybody, the key is to use the colors wisely, so that the subtle charm makes a huge statement in the room!
